50 sisters in 12 communities in 5 countries:
Guatemala, Haiti, Panama, Peru, Argentina
A vast country where several races co-exist, mainly Indians and people of mixed races
Challenges – economic, political and religious
70% poor, 50% actually have no decent dwellings or health care, high unemployment and devastating inflation
Oppressive military regimes in league with large land owners – injustice and violation of human rights, the wealthy ignore the poor, great proliferation of sects
Sisters’ main work is in education and social services. Human promotion especially women – education through radio and by training health workers, family catechesis and parish work, refuges for adults and children, and the handicapped, psychological accompaniment for disoriented youth.
